This movie's kind of a critic's wet dream because it's so open for interpretation that what you get out of it is entirely dependent on what you put into it- and the people who seemed to most enjoy this movie are the people who seem to enjoy spending hours thinking about it.Maybe I haven't spent enough time thinking about the film yet but personally, I feel like a movie needs earn that in some way and my first impression wasn't great.New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be castLooks like you're using new Reddit on an old browser. I found his performance to be communicative and almost accessible to the touch, as one is almost unaware that he is acting. I only recently got around to watching Kaufman's Anomalisa and I was really disappointment not only because it was a bit weak but also because it was huge letdown compared to Kaufman's first effort, Synecdoche, New York.I feel that the film is one of the masterpieces of the last ten years and manages to both be funny and achingly sad at the same time, however whenever I've recommended it or talked about the film to people who've seen it the general response has been either negative or indifferent. Made so much more sense to me this second time I watched it. Want to share IMDb's rating on your own site? Love it, though.Imagine that when the tap comes loose and hits him in the face, the main character suffers brain damage severe enough that he does not wake up again before dying.

I have to re-watch it AGAIN with this in mind...New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be castExplain Like I'm Five is the best forum and archive on the internet for layperson-friendly explanations.

The thing is, I just have a hard time really grasping and understanding the movie. I was thinking about this in a stats class today, and maybe it is the purgatory of the cleaning lady? After his wife leaves him, Caden's play is an attempt to control the people around him and give them roles that he wants them to play in his life.

It is very difficult to conceive of a movie much more complex than synecdoche. In other words, he could be me. So in finding out about Philip's death today, I decided to watch Synecdoche, New York. It is obvious that he has only one subject, the mind, and only one plot, how the mind negotiates with reality, fantasy, hallucination, desire and dreams. Regardless of his profession, he's relatable because so many of us feel the exact same way, we're always trying to figure out what the play should be about.Synecdoche is one of the few films that really put me into a daze for a while - if anything can move me that much I say A+.Its a trip. But Adam's whole analysis of this movie are mostly his personal interpretations, which he does admit occasionally- more often though Adam just talks about his views on life and death and then calls those ideas 'Kaufman's Genius'.I can see how some people might enjoy this but the whole thing just felt very 'High School English Class' to me.What happened to the rest?
