The ravioli tasted better than it looked, and was rather filling. The cabin was a mix of old and new (new seats with old cabin bins). After a short walk past security, we spotted our plane parked at gate B14, being prepped for our flight to Edmonton. We then decided to drop by Starbucks, so that we could grab a quick bite and some snacks to carry onboard our flight. What really sets them apart is the middle seat or lack of one. Getting on to the plane was straight forward. Subscribe to our FREE newsletter to receive updates whenever we release new trip reports! Vancouver is one of my favorite airports so I almost always have a good experience here. Along with its regional subsidiary WestJet Encore, the airline flies to about 90 destinations. Overall, the experience was pleasant and if given the right price, I would not hesitate to fly with Westjet again.
A trip report and review flying WestJet economy class between Edmonton and London. I took a look out the window, and much to my surprise, I saw a faint, wavy white and silver streak across the night sky. Kudos to Westjet on starting this service to Europe, since it gave me a lot more options when I was purchasing this fare. WestJet operates airplanes with all Economy Class seating. Along with its regional subsidiary WestJet Encore, the airline flies to about 90 destinations. But it was also accompanied by the threat that if there were an insufficient number of volunteers, it would potentially delay the flight. Part 2/7 of the Europe and Dubai Trip Report with Emirates and Westjet. Seating is plentiful, WiFi works, and there are clean restrooms throughout. The cabin interiors were refurbished with new seats, galley, and lavatory equipment, while the cabin bins were still using the original 767 setup. As this was a domestic flight, we arrived at the airport roughly two hours before departure for check-in. The cabin definitely shows its age – especially with the size of seatback screens.
The complimentary drink options can be seen in the image below (top left). C-GEWJ is an old Boeing 737-600 at 13 years (delivery was in 2006). We bought a cheap one-way ticket from New York LaGuardia (LGA) to London Gatwick (LGW) via Toronto Pearson (YYZ) for $557.09, a very good deal for a true premium economy across the Atlantic.
Prices were the expected inflight premium cost.My biggest issue with the flight was the IFE box ruining my already limited legroom and under-seat space. There are also charging stations and plenty of outlets around the seats to replenish your electronics, which is perfect for a long layover. Our departure was slightly delayed, due to the inbound flight arriving four hours late. With their large fleet of older 737s (with original non-refurbish cabin), the seatback screens are quite old as well.I was expecting a pay-per-use system as I had experienced on previous flights with FlyDubai and United. At around 12pm, thirty minutes before the scheduled departure time, the final boarding call was already being announced, so we quickly hurried on board. I really should have called ahead to ask if I could be assigned a seat. I also was entertained most of the four and a half hour flight with the IFE – even if the image was jittery and scrambled sometimes.Flight attendants were pleasant and easy to communicate with and we arrived pretty close to the scheduled time. However, for the amount you pay for these seats, I definitely have no complaints. Me being surprised is probably more of an indication that I’ve been flying too much Ryanair and easyJet recently where nothing comes for free.In basic economy, passengers were served snacks and beverages twice. We put the airfare on the Platinum Card® from American Express, which earns 5x points on airfare booked with the airline or Amex Travel, so we got 2,785 Membership Rewards points, worth about $56 at our current valuations— a nic…
After the meal service, we were already over northern Canada. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a really good camera and the reflections off the cabin window made it impossible to capture it in a photo. We touched down shortly after our scheduled arrival time and had a rather long taxi to our gate in the north terminal. I managed to spot a variety of planes during the taxi, including Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, and the new Cathay a350 along the way. Today we’ll go through the experience of flying WestJet’s basic domestic economy service from Vancouver to Montreal on WS542.
It’s certainly a world away from I was already frustrated by the fact that I had a middle seat because my mixed itinerary (Air France/WestJet) forced me to check-in at the airport and not in advance. On a side note, the LED lights for each individual seat were supposed to be controlled by the button on the armrest, but for the entire flight, the light control only worked properly once, and then proceeded to turn on and off randomly. We took off with some mild rain showers, and had a somewhat choppy climb to our cruising altitude. WestJet Plus seats are no different than those found in economy aside from a little more legroom (36 inches). What a rare sight! The Westjet flight to Gatwick was definitely on par with what I would expect. I find choosing between WestJet and That’s it for my review! This review covers all 3 class's of dining and their different product philosophies. By 6:50pm, boarding was announced, but since we had an almost full flight, I sat down at my seat just shortly after 7:15pm.This was my first time on the Westjet transatlantic fleet of 767s. Prior to boarding, the gate agents made an announcement that they would need 10 volu… Seating is plentiful, WiFi works, and there are clean restrooms throughout. We had a four hour layover before our next flight to London, so I decided to take a walk around the concourse, as this was my first time in Edmonton International. We were then offered a meal service shortly after, with pre-purchased meals delivered first, followed by meals for purchase offered along the cabin.I decided to order the Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli dish ($9), since I knew I would be getting hungry later with five hours to go before arriving in London. If it weren’t for that box, there would be no issue with legroom – I’m almost six feet tall (181cm).It’s been quite some time since I flew WestJet and I had honestly forgotten about their inflight entertainment system.
