A trip report and review flying WestJet economy class between Edmonton and London. I took a look out the window, and much to my surprise, I saw a faint, wavy white and silver streak across the night sky. Kudos to Westjet on starting this service to Europe, since it gave me a lot more options when I was purchasing this fare. WestJet operates airplanes with all Economy Class seating. Along with its regional subsidiary WestJet Encore, the airline flies to about 90 destinations. But it was also accompanied by the threat that if there were an insufficient number of volunteers, it would potentially delay the flight. The cabin interiors were refurbished with new seats, galley, and lavatory equipment, while the cabin bins were still using the original 767 setup. I really should have called ahead to ask if I could be assigned a seat. I also was entertained most of the four and a half hour flight with the IFE – even if the image was jittery and scrambled sometimes.Flight attendants were pleasant and easy to communicate with and we arrived pretty close to the scheduled time. However, for the amount you pay for these seats, I definitely have no complaints. Me being surprised is probably more of an indication that I’ve been flying too much Ryanair and easyJet recently where nothing comes for free.In basic economy, passengers were served snacks and beverages twice. After the meal service, we were already over northern Canada. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a really good camera and the reflections off the cabin window made it impossible to capture it in a photo. We touched down shortly after our scheduled arrival time and had a rather long taxi to our gate in the north terminal. I managed to spot a variety of planes during the taxi, including Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, and the new Cathay a350 along the way.
