If you are going south to Wind Cave, I'd suggest you return via whichever part of the loop you miss on the way down as there are different things to see in different areas and you never know where (for example) the buffalo herd may be hanging out on a given day (although you might try asking staff at the entrance gate).we traveled the loop early , I'm thinking about 8:00. We traveled from Wind Cave toward Rushmore. I don't know that the direction of travel matters much so if you have a destination in mind for after the loop then your plan sounds like a good one to me. There is an access road that runs up the back of Cad East which does have very limited spaces for parking.or the ‘Fence’ as it is also know is a very popular location. Most aircraft seen are Hawks from RAF Valley but just about any other aircraft can also be seen depending on your luck.
