“Black and Blue” is a B-movie through and through—and that’s actually a compliment.It’s only when it tries to be about something weightier and more substantial that “Black and Blue” loses its way and feels like it’ll never end. The hunt for a killer draws a detective into an even larger mystery: the nature of the universe itself.

Out of Blue spends a bit more time than it should focusing on the realm of the multiverse, but that's only because it comes at the expense of the crackerjack mystery at its heart. Out of Blue is a folly so lame and loopy that you want to help it across the road: possibly into a taxi to a care home.

Viewers who like their mysteries to be solved, rather than merely mused upon, should prepare for bewilderment.
